Cancer Research UK's Race for Life began in 1994, with one race in Battersea Park: 680 women came together and raised £36,000.
Ten years on Race for Life has grown to become the UK's biggest fundraising event.

In 2002 I began my fundraising for Cancer Research UK by raising £1210 in sponsorship, using Ty Beanie Babies to help me reach this total. In 2003 I raised £288 in sponsorship, which was part of a total raised during that year of over £11,000 for the charity. Again, Ty Beanies provided the main focus for the fundraising for Race for Life.

This year the well-known company Steiff donated a very special bear for me to use as a mascot and fundraiser for Race for Life.
This mohair bear is a gorgeous shade of pink and is worth £120 at retail. Anyone who sponsored me in some way for the event was be entered into a draw to win this beautiful bear. This draw took place after the Race for Life event on 7th July and was won by Ellen Nuebel.

One way in which supporters were involved was through sponsoring me to wear on my tee shirt the name of a friend or relative. This was either ‘In celebration of…’ or ‘In memory of…’ You may have seen the recent advertising on television as part of the ‘All Clear’ campaign. I think that it is very important to celebrate continuing lives as much as it is to remember those lost.

I also sold a special edition of 50 Sherbert Ty beanie Babies through Bean Bag and Collectables Magazine
This proved very popular and sold out in a week!
