Harrods Toy Kingdom
The Launch of
Ty Starlight

November 6th 2004

Queues quickly built up inside the Toy Kingdom
as many Ty collectors gathered to purchase the new
Harrods ty Exclusive Beanie
* Starlight *

Although there had been many rumours about this bear
its design had been a closely guarded secret

Starlight turned out to be not one, but two Beanies, a White and a Black Beanie version of last year's Classic Stardust.
The first 500 of each version were offered for sale in Ty display cases with individually numbered gold and black certificates behind the beanie.
Each certificate had been signed by Patricia Roche, head of Ty Europe.
The certificates were numbered in total from 1 - 1000, rather than 1- 500 for each version, making it impossible to have a 'matching pair' of certificates for a pair of Black and White Starlight Beanies.
These boxed editions cost extra.

Customers could buy 1 White and up to 10 Black Starlight Beanies in total but that included only one of each version in the display case (if they were lucky enough to be there early enough in the queue).

Once the boxed edition had sold out customers could buy each version 'loose' (with the Harrods price tag in its ear) but still only 1 White Starlight per customer.

There was strict control on the sale and purchase of these bears, much more so than at last year's Stardust launch.

Inside the Children's Theatre was a magical display all about the history of
Ty Inc and Ty Europe.
I was flattered to see that my photograph from last year's Stardust launch had been used in this display!

On the other side of the display there was a wonderful Beanie scene created, featuring a 'Sleighbelle' pulled sleigh landing on the roof of a Jingle Beanie house....
... there was one solitary black Starlight popping his head out of a window...I wonder if anyone will buy him?!
