"As many as 30,000 people are feared dead and at least 42,000 have been injured
when a severe earthquake hit areas of Pakistan, India and Afghanistan early on 8 October.

"The epicentre of the quake, which measured 7.6 on the Richter scale,
was some 95 kilometres north of Pakistan’s capital city Islamabad.
Several villages are known to have been completely destroyed,
and countless others have been severely damaged."
(British Red Cross website)

"The 7.6 magnitude earthquake that struck close to Muzaffarabad
in Pakistan-administered Kashmir on Saturday morning
has caused widespread devastation.

"Relief operations are under way
to help tens of thousands of injured survivors
and an estimated two million people left homeless.
Poor weather has caused delays as has the remote mountainous terrain."
